This is for you if you can't find a farrier who understands donkeys, your donkey has been labeled difficult or untrimmable, or your donkey won't let anyone near their feet, including you. You don't need a donkey who already cooperates. That's the first thing you learn.

"Finding a donkey knowledgeable farrier in my area was impossible. I took Megan's course and now take care of all 5 of mine on my own." — Heather Bielek

"I've been trimming this guy myself for almost 2 years now. Taking the course transformed our relationship. Hoof care is now just another activity we do together. It really can be as easy as it looks."
Tony Amort

Off the Farrier Schedule

Trim on your own timing and keep your donkey's hooves in good shape year-round.

Designed for Beginners

Step-by-step guidance makes it doable, even if you've never trimmed before.

Trust-Based Approach

Gentle, liberty-based handling makes the whole process calmer for you and your donkey.

Here is what almost twenty years of trimming donkeys has shown me.

Your donkey is not difficult. Your donkey is misunderstood. Resistance is not behavior, it's communication. When you understand how a donkey actually thinks, force and sedation become unnecessary, and the person your donkey already trusts becomes the right person to do this. That's what this course is built on. Not force. Understanding.

"Teaching donkey owners diy hoof trimming has become the most important work I do." - Megan Hensley

Learn to trim your donkey's hooves safely and correctly, make hiring a farrier optional, and turn a resistant donkey into a calm, willing partner during trims.

You walk into the paddock, your donkey stays put, you pick up the foot, you do the trim, and you know it was right.

"Right off the bat, Megan shared info none of the other trimmers had ever mentioned, and it immediately felt right. I trusted her before I even finished the video. My donkey is more comfortable and happier than he's been in years."
Chelsea Douglas

The Framework: Donkey Hooves Done Right

Three shifts, in order. Each one builds on the last. This is not horse hoof care with a few adjustments. It is built from the ground up for this specific animal.

1. Visibility

You learn the anatomy, landmarks, and balance basics that guide every trim. You learn what a healthy donkey hoof actually looks like, and how to spot trouble early. You cannot trim confidently what you cannot see clearly.

2. Handling

Using liberty-based, trust-based handling, you build a foundation your donkey can actually say yes to. No restraints. No force. No fight. You learn to hear what your donkey is telling you, and to work with your donkey instead of overpowering them. This is where the "my donkey is untrimmable" stories get rewritten.

3. Confidence

Knowing what to trim, how much, when to stop, and when something is outside your scope and needs a professional. That is what confidence actually looks like. Not fearlessness. Informed decision making. This is a learnable skill and you keep it for life.

What Changes When You Have the Right System

Without the pass

  • No farrier for donkeys. Nobody in range who actually knows them.
  • Donkey won't lift their hooves. Force, sedation, or a struggle every time.
  • Chronic laminitis and hoof issues. Same cycle every season, managed, never resolved.
  • Trimmed like a horse. Most farriers are trained on horses. Donkeys are not horses.
  • Helpless and dependent. Watching from the sidelines, hoping for the best.
  • Expensive appointments, no progress. Money out the door, hooves the same.

With the pass

  • You become the trimmer. Step by step, from a farrier who has done this for 20 years and built the course for owners.
  • Real partnership. Through liberty-based handling, your donkey feels safe and chooses to participate. No restraints, no force.
  • Real turnarounds. Diet, lifestyle, and trimming angle together is how chronic issues actually start to turn around, not just get managed.
  • Donkey-correct hoof care. You understand exactly what a correct donkey trim looks like. You can see it, assess it, and do it yourself.
  • The one in charge. You stop being a bystander in your donkey's hoof health.
  • The math works fast. The skill pays you back every trim, for the life of your donkey.

This Is For You If

  • Your donkey's hooves need attention and there's no reliable professional available
  • Your donkey has been labeled difficult, resistant, or untrimmable
  • You've been putting off trims because you're afraid of making things worse
  • You want a skill you can use for the life of your animal, not a one-time fix
  • You believe your donkey is capable of more than they've been given credit for
  • You're an owner, or a trimmer who was only ever trained on horses and wants donkey-specific knowledge

This Is Not For You If

  • You're looking for a shortcut that skips the relationship work
  • You want someone to just do it for you
  • You're not willing to be consistent. Donkey hooves don't respond to one good trim and done.
  • You're looking for horse hoof care information that happens to mention donkeys

Real Owners. Real Donkeys. Real Results.

Hundreds of donkey owners have learned to trim their own donkeys with this course. Here are some of their words.

Student's First Trim

"Not perfect but this is my first trim by myself. Had a farrier that was coming out on a schedule, she stopped coming back in May of 2024. Decided it was time to finally have a stab at it myself." - Tracy  Haycox

"I couldn't find a farrier who knew donkeys."

"They're not just like horses, which we all know is not true. One day I luckily stumbled across this page. It's not just the perfect hooves she manages to achieve, but how she goes about doing it. I am now able to lift all four of her feet and pick her front ones. She would have never let me do this six months ago."
Ellen Rose Peach

"Fargo is my 4 year old BLM burro. He was never keen on hoof care, and when he kicked the rasp out of the farrier's hand, we decided to change direction. We found Megan, took her courses, and gained the confidence and skills to do it ourselves." — Tony Amort

"It's a very wet climate and these hooves were like iron because I'm in Arizona, so hot and dry. I still thought there's no way I am going to be able to do this. I soaked the iron hooves and had to trim in a few sessions, but I did it."
Sharon Brunhofer

"My donkey won't let anyone touch their feet."

"I've been trimming this guy myself for almost 2 years now. Taking the course transformed our relationship. Hoof care is now just another activity we do together. It really can be as easy as it looks. It has changed hoof care from something that we do TO them into something that we do WITH them. They love it."
Tony Amort

"Diesel is wary of everyone but me, and no one could trim him without a battle. Four raspings later, and the best news: he stands untied and gentle. Me at 71, now being able to successfully and safely rasp his hooves at liberty."
Terry Hensley

"Yes, trimmed his front feet at liberty and without sedation. I'm so happy."
Cynthia

"We're making progress. First liberty rasping. Previous owner said he was pinched against a fence for trims, so he's learning that it can be done another way."
Akyra Moto

"My donkey has hoof problems I don't know how to fix."

"I appreciate you so much. I've gotten even better and my boys are no longer suffering from horrible abscesses, laminitis, or anything else."
Alesha Feaster

"Not only did I learn how to trim donkey hooves, I learned about proper nutrition, in-depth hoof anatomy, enriching their environment, donkey behavior, and common hoof issues along with how to treat them. In two months Oda Mae went from having difficulty walking to running around. She is a totally different donkey, so happy and full of life."
Kristen Kagey

"Finally, my donkeys have good looking feet and I can spot any problems or issues that may arise."
Michaele Calderone

"I'm new to this and afraid I'll mess it up."

"I did the course not knowing anything really about hooves. I've had my donkeys just over a year and now trim them confidently myself."
Bee Higgins

"I can do a basic trim. I can do enough to keep them from having issues. And I do them frequently, like every 2 to 3 weeks, which makes trimming easier."
Jen Bilsky

"I've just started her course and my relationship with all 3 of my donkeys has changed dramatically just by me tweaking my attitude. In just 2 days, despite our scary farrier visits, I am able to lift their feet effortlessly and understand them so much more."
Amelie Carthee

"I just completed it and can trim all mine now. She goes into depth so you understand the anatomy of the hoof, tools, and how to trim."
Trace Marie

"Is it worth it?"

"To anyone sitting on the fence, please just do it. I joined 6 weeks ago and today, for the first time, calmly and without stress, I trimmed a donkey's very overgrown hooves. This course is a game changer."
Lotus Moran

"Best instruction ever. So worth the time and money. It's a lifetime of education."
Judy Doughty

"If you own donkeys and know you're going to be with them their whole life, learning to be your own farrier is so smart money-wise, to know what's going on with their entire body."
Mini Friends Farm

"Become your own donkey farrier. You will never regret learning these skills, and your donkeys will love you for it."
Kathleen Wiest

More owners. More donkeys.

"I learned so much more than trimming, like how to create an optimal lifestyle for my long-ears. She addresses hoof care from a whole health perspective in a kind and supportive way. Megan makes the learning fun, easy to apply, and takes the fear out of DIY hoof care."
Loni Langdon

"You've helped so many donkeys and their people. You empower us, those that love donkeys and want to take very good care of them."
Leslie Clohan

"Megan is a godsend for all things donkey. She is incredibly kind and a wonderful teacher. Knowledge is power and Megan is so educated."
Hannah Ziccarelli

Meet Megan

I had spent 20+ years trimming donkeys the industry had written off. I was traveling the entire state of California. My inbox was full from around the world. Donkeys suffering, and owners who had nothing. No information. No support. No guidance. Just a lot of love for their animal and no idea what to do with it.

I knew I could not get to all of them. So I made a decision that changed the direction of my career: I decided to teach owners to do this themselves. That was over 10 years ago, and it has become the most important work I do.

My position has not changed. You are capable of this. Your donkey is capable of this. The information just has to be built for the animal you actually have. That's what this course is.

Professional Farrier Since 2006  |  UC Davis Donkey Welfare Symposium  |  ABC's Donkey King  |  Pacific Coast Horseshoeing School  |  500+ Students Worldwide  |  Cavallo LEB Co-Creator

Loni Langdon of All equine Bodywork described Megan as equal parts farrier, educator, and welfare advocate, taking a wellness approach you won't find with many hoof care providers.

The Math

A donkey trim runs roughly $40 to $80 per donkey, every 6 to 10 weeks, and that's if you can find someone willing and able to do it well. It's also a gamble on how much they'll actually care for your donkey. The cost adds up fast, and you're still not the one in control of the result. For an owner with a couple of donkeys, this course pays for itself inside the first year or two, and keeps paying after that.

And consider the alternative if you wanted to learn this the formal way. Farrier school costs thousands of dollars and weeks away from home, and it trains you on horses. This gives you the donkey-specific skill, for your own animals, for the life of every donkey you'll ever own.

You learn this once. You keep it for life. That's the difference between paying for a trim and owning the skill.
